Despite assurances from the federal government and lawmakers, the Department of Justice has failed to remove private landowners from the Cayuga Nation of New York land claim.

Lawyers for the government and the tribe still say their intention is to make the state pay for 64,000 acres of stolen land. Now that a federal judge has ruled the state owes $211 million in interest on top of a $36.9 million juury award for the land, the issue has become of higher importance.
