Rebel leader says peace is possible

DECEMBER 12, 2000 Subcomandante Marcos, the leader of the Zapatista National Liberation Army, is expressing support for the new Governor of Chiapas, hoping he can bring peace to the southern Mexico state. For perhaps the first time in the seven-year history of the Indian rights movement, the Zapatistas are being praised for their resistance to the federal government.
