In The Hoop
FRIDAY, AUGUST 9, 2002 Welcome to In The Hoop, Indianz.Com's occasional column about assorted Indian issues. In The Hoop: The Scorecard
Is it Friday already? That means it's time for the weekly list of the movers and shakers in Indian Country and beyond. The Winners
Makah Nation - Will the activists stop bothering you? Probably not but congratulations on yet another victory! Aiyana Picard - "I told her she was the toughest little Indian I ever saw," said a tribal member when he came across you and Tip the Dingo after a cold night out. Incompetence - It doesn't take brains to make a conspiracy, just 50 people all acting like children and one report to clear them all of wrongdoing. The Losers
Donald Trump - They don't look like Indians to you? Well that doesn't look like hair to us. Gale Norton - You haven't really done anything lately but we think this means you are up to something sneaky. Steve Griles - You too! Grizzly 001 - Let's see if we have this straight. You're the problem not human encroachment on your territory. So we have to kill you to keep you from eating the garbage and food we leave around. Makes perfect sense! In The Middle
Indian Country - If you don't move quickly on getting the trust standards bill passed then we'll have another Nevada v. Hicks next year. And 10 more Congressional hearings where nothing gets done. Non-Recognized Indians - It was a mixed week for you, a win on eagle feathers but a loss on a property rights lawsuit. We say stay in there. Nebraska Tribes - Will you ever get gaming on your lands in the state? We say not until Donald Trump teams up with a tribe and opens a huge resort in Iowa. Sand Creek - We hope the glitch in the land deal gets resolved soon. It's not like we haven't waited years for Native history to be recognized. In Your Hoop
