DECEMBER 15, 2000 A group called Nebraskans for Peace on Thursday urged the Nebraska Liquor Control Commission to step up investigation of Whiteclay beer vendors because they may be contributing to illegal activities. Vendors in Whiteclay are only allowed to sell beer but there are allegations of selling other liquor. Alcohol is banned on the nearby Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota and there are also bootleggers there, say officials. But the Nebraska State Police says while they have increased police presence in response to issues raised by Indian leaders, they aren't receiving much cooperation from either establishments in Whiteclay or people on the reservation.
