A federal judge on Wednesday barred the Army Corps of Engineers from raising water levels in Lake Oahe in South Dakota.

The temporary restraining order was entered at the request of South Dakota, which contends rainbow smelt eggs will be harmed if water levels are raised prematurely. The state wants to want until May 22 for the eggs to hatch.

The state is making similar requests on two other lakes.
