The Department of Interior is moving to open up drilling in the Rocky Mountains.

Five areas are under consideration by the Bureau of Land Management and other agencies for decision by November. BLM director Kathleen Clark said development would proceed only if consistent with current land uses and environmental protections.

As far as the Powder River Basin in Montana and Wyoming goes, the BLM is extending public comments on a draft environmental impact statement. According to the AP, the Environmental Protection Agency has raised concerns about development.
