Reservation hog farm dealt setback

MONDAY, APRIL 8, 2002 The 8th Circuit Court of Appeals on Friday ruled that a hog farm company doesn't have the right to run a facility on the Rosebud Sioux Reservation. Sun Prairie filed suit against the Bureau of Indian Affairs after acting Assistant Secretary James McDivitt voided a lease between the company and the tribe. The lease didn't meet environmental requirements, the Bureau of Indian Affairs said. A previous administration of the tribe approved the lease but the current leadership is opposed to the hog farm. The farm is continuing to operate as the tribe explores what steps to take next to shut it down. Get the Case:
