Tribes host coalbed methane meetings

THURSDAY, APRIL 4, 2002 Two meetings to address coalbed methane development in Montana are being held today on the Northern Cheyenne and Crow reservations. The Department of Interior and the state of Montana have released a draft environmental impact statement on drilling. The meetings are part of the public comment process. One meeting was held last night in Billings. The Billings Gazette reported that about 200 attended and many ranchers and farmers spoke out in favor of strict protections. They are concerned about the effects of drilling on the water supply and side products of development. Get the Story:
