McCaleb to start sacred site task force

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 20, 2002 Assistant Secretary Neal McCaleb will be setting up a task force on sacred sites to follow an executive order issued during the Clinton administration. The 1996 order calls on the federal government to accommodate access to sacred sites on federal land. It does not address private land. An aide to McCaleb will announce the initiative today at the Sacred Lands Forum sponsored by the National Congress of American Indians. The forum will include a screening of an award-winning film on sacred sites, a keynote by scholar Vine Deloria and a panel discussion. Get the Story:
