A dissenting member of the Skull Valley Goshute Tribe of Utah says the state's two senators helped launch an investigation into a proposed nuclear waste facility on his reservation.

Sammy Blackbear says Sens. Orrin Hatch and Bob Bennett called on the FBI to investigate because the Department of Interior didn't want the project probed. A spokesperson for Bennett, however, denied the claim and Hatch's office did not return a call to The Deseret News.

The investigation has resulted in subpoenas delivered to three tribal leaders, who are ordered to turn over numerous documents related to the waste plant. Eight private utility companies are paying the tribe an unconfirmed amount of money.
