The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has finalized its environmental impact study giving a favorable approval to a controversial plan to store up to 40,000 tons of nuclear waste on the Skull Valley Goshute Reservation in Utah.

The document was finalized earlier this month but parts were redacted due to national security concerns. After a review of the information, the NRC has released the full version.

The tribe has entered into a contract with a consortium of private utilities to accept the waste. The site is opposed by Utah politicians.
