Oklahoma Governor Frank Keating on Monday asked Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Christie Whitman to visit the Tar Creek Superfund site in his state.

Tar Creek is considered the highest priority Superfund site in the nation. A significant portion of the land is owned by members of the Quapaw Tribe.

The Bureau of Indian Affairs is one of several federal agencies aiding in the $250 million cleanup of Tar Creek.
