The General Accounting Office is seriously considering taking Vice President Dick Cheney to court to force him to make public documents about his energy task force, says comptroller David M. Walker.

The GAO has issued a "demand" letter to Cheney, the first ever to a Vice President of President. Cheney's office has been holding back on releasing information about how his task force developed the national energy policy.

At the request of Rep. Henry A. Waxman (D-Calif.) and other Democrats, the GAO is conducting a probe into industry influence over the policy.

For his own investigation, Senator Joe Lieberman (D-Conn.) threatened to subpoena various Cabinet agencies for documents on the Bush administration's environmental decisions. But the adminstration has agreed to turn over any evidence.
