An estimated 10,000 farmers and supporters gathered in Oregon on Monday to protest the federal government's decision to give more water to protect salmon considered essential to two California tribes.

The farmers said Congress needs to change the Endangered Species Act to prevent them from losing their water. But the Department of Interior said water must be restored to protect endangered runs of fish for the Yurok Tribe and the Hoopa Valley Tribe, both of California.
