The Penobscot Nation and Passamaquoddy Tribe on Tuesday asked the Maine Supreme Judicial Court to reconsider its decision about how the state's freedom of information applies to tribes.

The court earlier this month ruled the tribes have to turn over to private paper companies communications they made with the state or federal government concerning water quality. The tribes have opposed releasing the documents because they want the Environmental Protection Agency to have control over water quality in rivers near the reservation.

The tribes say the state shouldn't have control because they have allowed paper companies to pollute the rivers.
