DECEMBER 4, 2000

Leaders of three Maine tribes met with Governor Angus King on Friday and vowed to continue fighting a request by three paper companies to obtain some of their documents.

The leaders say their documents are internal tribal ones and not subject to a state freedom of information act. But a judge ruled the leaders in contempt and ordered them jailed -- a ruling which is on appeal.
