Tribe seeks better nuclear cleanup

DECEMBER 15, 2000 The Nez Perce Tribe of Idaho is asking the Department of Energy to reclean two landfills at the Hanford Nuclear Reservation in eastern Washington state. The Nez Perce and several other tribes have traditionally used the land where the site is located for hunting, fishing, and gathering. The tribe says the landfills need to be recleaned in order to allow tribal members to gather roots safely. Get the Story:
