Reversal of nuclear decision sought

JANUARY 19, 2001 Representative Doc Hastings (R-Wash.) said he plans on asking the new Secretary of Energy to overturn an order permanently shutting down the Fast Flux Test Facility on the Hanford Nuclear Reservation in Washington. Outgoing Secretary Bill Richardson ordered the shutdown this week. Spencer Abraham, his replacement, is expected to be confirmed and Hastings hopes to persuade him to reverse the decision. It reportedly will cost $300 million to permanently shut the test nuclear reactor down. Get the Story:
