Interior sued over river plan

The Westlands Water District in northern California has filed suit against the Department of Interior over its decision to restore water to the Trinity River.

Secretary Bruce Babbitt visited the Hoopa Valley Reservation last month to announce a final plan that would help restore salmon to the river and fulfill the government's trust reponsibility to the Hoopa and Yurok Tribes. But since the plan diverts water from users further south, the water district says it endangers economic and agricultural development.
