The Mohegan Tribe of Connecticut wants to plant as many as 5 million clam eggs in area waterways in what a tribal official calls a scaled-down version of a controversial fisheries proposal.

The tribe had proposed a significant lobster and seafood fishery but ran into local opposition. The tribe promised to listen to the views of residents.

The tribe will hold a public hearing on its clam proposal October 16.
