FRIDAY, MARCH 15, 2002

Lawmakers in the House and Senate are questioning the Bureau of Indian Affairs' proposed budget cuts to post-secondary schools.

President Bush's fiscal year 2003 budget slashes $3 million in funds to the United Tribes Technical College in North Dakota. Money to Crownpoint Institute of Technology in New Mexico is also cut.

The Institute of American Indian Arts in New Mexico was not affected. The school's budget is about $4.1 million.
