WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 30, 2002 Alumni, parents and other interested folks are lamenting the demise, perhaps temporary, of the Native American Preparatory School in New Mexico. On the web site for The Santa Fe New Mexican, readers have left some of their views. Writes alumnus Heidi Brandow: "As a member of the first graduating class of NAPS ('99) I am disappointed that a place that made a profound impact on my life, as well as the lives of others, will soon be closing it's doors. What is probably more upsetting is the fact that the school's administration and board members made no attempt at contacting alumni, parents, and friends of the school to spread awareness of these upsetting turn of events." Writes Tasina Banks: "It is sad to see the demise of what could have been an institution that educates and challenges our native youth to work hard to be admitted to a college, let alone the college of their dreams as the NAPS alumni have proved by being accepted into YALE, STANFORD, CORNELL, and many others." Writes Debi Brady: "As a former Boardmember of a non-profit and Education Research Analyst, it saddens me to see such a promising institution fail. If the Board was having trouble meeting obligations there were many ways that these could be resolved...but only if you make them widely known. I found their website and their "News" page had NO NEWS on it...hmmmm...? Isn't this news?" Get the Story:
