A logo depicting an Indian was removed from the floor of a sports center at the University of North Dakota on Thursday.

School president Charles Kupchella ordered the removal. It is to be replaced by another logo that will be painted on a wall in the center.

The new logo was designed by an Indian artist.

The school was considering dropping its "Fighting Sioux" nickname but the state Board of Higher Education voted to keep it.
