MAY 30, 2001 The Supreme Court on Tuesday refused to hear an appeal brought by three White students who challenged the University of Washington's use of race in its law school admissions process. The decisions lets stand a 9th Circuit Court of Appeals which upheld the law school's diversity policies. At the same time, it doesn't clear up the conflicts in law among the different federal circuits. The 5th Circuit has struck down the use of race in admissions at schools in Texas, Louisiana and Mississippi. A federal court in Michigan, in the 6th Circuit, has upheld the use of race and if that case is appealed, the Supreme Court may decide to take on the issue. Get the Story:
