THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 28, 2002 "Bless The People — Harmonized Peyote Songs" by Verdell Primeaux and Johnny Mike won the Grammy on Wednesday night for the Best Native American Recording. The award presentation was not televised as previously reported here and elsewhere. That didn't stop nominee The Black Eagle Singers (*) of Jemez Pueblo from going to the show in style, reports The Albuquerque Journal. The male drummers of the 11-member singing group wore tuxedos sporting the Jemez war shield while the two women singers wore traditional Pueblo clothing. The Journal did not report if the group ate again at Sizzler but Bessie Toya, a relative of group members, apparently kissed Al "Let's Get Together" Green. * Ed. Note: The Black Eagle Singers are from Jemez Pueblo, not the Black Lodge Singers as previously written. Get the Story:
