A statue created by Enoch Kelly Haney, a Seminole Nation artist and a state lawmaker, will adorn the dome of the Oklahoma capitol building in Oklahoma City.

The world-reknowned artist's statue depicts a "generic" Indian male holding a shield in his left hand and a spear in his right. He does not represent any specific tribe or culture, because the statue needed to convey Oklahoma's Indian roots and heritage.

Haney was chosen out of six finalists from 22 applicants. He will get a $50,000 artist's commission. The statue will go on the dome in 2002.
