Pueblo declares state of emergency over fire

THURSDAY, JULY 17, 2003 Nambe Pueblo in northern New Mexico has declared a state of emergency due to a fire burning on tribal land. Gov. Tom Talache said the fire is threatening the watershed and important cultural sites. He has banned campfires and low-flying plans over the reservation. The Molina Fire was sparked June 23 by lightning in the Pecos Wilderness near the reservation. It crossed onto tribal land on Tuesday. Get the Story:
