The 100 faculty and staff members of Si Tanka University in South Dakota won't be paid for the rest of the summer, according to news accounts.

The university, which is owned by the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe, consists of two campuses: one off-reservation in Huron and the other on the reservation. According to the news accounts, employees at both campuses were told they could work without a paycheck or be laid off.

Most are choosing to work until new funding is expected for the new school term in August, The Sioux Falls Argus Leader and the Associated Press report.

The tribe purchased Huron University two years ago. The Huron school has had financial problems for years.
