The state of South Dakota reburied the remains of Yankton Sioux ancestors uncovered at a recreation site along the Missouri River.

The remains and artifacts were the subject of a year-long battle between the tribe, the state and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Tribal members objected to the way their ancestors were being handled, and a federal judge temporarily put a halt to work at the site, saying the federal government violated the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act.
