THURSDAY, JULY 3, 2003 Secretary of Interior Gale Norton today will take questions online about the Bush administration's handling of national parks. The Washington Post is hosting Norton's chat, which comes a day after she released a report defending the Department of Interior's efforts. Conservation groups give her a failing grade on parks. While on the campaign trail, President Bush promised to eliminate the maintenance and repair backlog in national parks. According to the report, he has spent $2.9 billion of the $5 billion he sought. Outside assessments indicate the backlog is somewhere between $4 billion and $6.8 billion. The chat will take place at 11 a.m. Get the Story:
