TUESDAY, JULY 1, 2003 The Oneida Nation of Wisconsin is asking Governor Jim Doyle (D) to reject several provisions of the state's budget. The tribe says Republicans inserted the items in order to punish tribes for new gaming compacts that Doyle signed. The tribe also says the party harbors racist and discriminatory sentiments. The items identified would require the tribe to pay more sales tax on cigarette sales on the reservation, cut funding to local school districts and reduce money for a wide variety of Indian programs.
