Catawba members help excavate settlements

FRIDAY, JUNE 27, 2003 Archaeologists at the University of North Carolina have unearthed Catawba tribal settlements dating to the 1700s. Catawba tribal members assisted in the excavation of the sites, called Old Town and Old Town. Log cabins with coins, pottery, and military and census records were found. Old Town was inhabited up until the Revolutionary War, when it was destroyed and abandoned. After the war ended, tribal members built a new settlement. Get the Story:
