Woman: Hit and run victim appeared intoxicated

FRIDAY, JUNE 20, 2003 A Navajo man who was killed in an hit and run accident in Phoenix, Arizona, may have been intoxicated, The Arizona Republic reports. Jim Lee Reed, 43, died last Saturday after apparently wandering into the street. A woman claims a man fitting his description entered her home and asked for money for bus fare. The woman says the man seemed intoxicated. Reed has a history of drunk driving and his license has been suspended, according to news accounts. Results of an autopsy, which could reveal his blood alcohol level, have not been released. Thomas J. O'Brien, a Catholic bishop, has been arrested in connection with the accident. He has been charged with leaving the scene of a crime. The Republic reports that police have discovered human hair and biological tissue on his windshield and blood spatters on the roof of his car.
