WEDNESDAY, JUNE 18, 2003 Idaho Governor Dirk Kempthorne (R) is President Bush's top pick to head the Environmental Protection Agency, The Washington Post reports. Republican sources said Bush has made his choice but is waiting on a decision from Kempthorne, who was governor while the state opposed the Coeur d'Alene Tribe's claim to the southern third of Lake Coeur d'Alene, a Superfund site. The tribe eventually won its case at the Supreme Court. Kempthorne would replace former New Jersey Gov. Christie Todd Whitman, who is retiring at the end of this month. Get the Story:
