Alaska Governor Frank Murkowski (R) vetoed funding for law enforcement in 15 Alaska Native villages.

The cut to the village public safety officer (VPSO) program is expected to save nearly $1 million a year. But village leaders say they will not be able to respond to local crimes and incidents. A total of 15 VPSOs were cut.
