FRIDAY, JUNE 13, 2003

A federal judge will appoint a special master to supervise the reburial of remains at a Yankton Sioux burial site along the Missouri River in South Dakota.

Tribal members objected to the way the state and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers were handling their ancestors at the site. U.S. District Judge Lawrence Piersol, however, said construction at the recreation area could continue.

The case is Yankton Sioux Tribe v. U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, No. 02-4126.
