THURSDAY, JUNE 12, 2003

A complaint filed with the Federal Election Commission accuses Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) of violating federal law by soliciting donations to recall Governor Gray Davis (D).

According to the complaint, made by an ally of Davis, Issa asked the Morongo Band of Mission Indians for money. A spokesperson for the tribe said Issa met with tribal leaders but refused to comment further.

Issa is leading the recall effort. As a federal office holder, he would be prohibited from raising soft-money donations.
