Minn. paper might drop ban on using Indian nicknames

MONDAY, JUNE 2, 2003 The Minneapolis Star Tribune is considering dropping its policy against using Indian nicknames in its sports pages. The change would end a 9-year ban on the use of names considered offensive to Native Americans. Joe Day, executive director of the Indian Affairs Council, said the paper would be taking a step backwards if it drops the policy. Get the Story:
