Prairie Island nuclear bill signed into law

Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty (R) signed into law a bill that allows the storage of additional nuclear waste at a facility next to the Prairie Island Indian Community.

The bill includes a settlement between the Prairie Island Mdewakanton Dakota Tribe and Xcel Energy, operators of the nuclear plant. The tribe will receive upwards of $1 million a year as long as the plant is in operation.
