Indian village in Ore. due for makeover

TUESDAY, MAY 20, 2003 A tribal fishing village in Oregon is due for a makeover by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Celilo Village was created in the 1950s after the Army Corps flooded traditional fishing land along the Columbia River. Homes and infrastructure on the 30-acre site are in poor condition. The land is held in trust by the federal government. About 50 people, mostly members of the Yakama Nation, live there. Get the Story:
