Dallas Massey, chairman of the White Mountain Apache Tribe of Arizona, allegedly used tribal funds to pay an attorney who represented him during an election dispute, The Tucson Citizen reports.

The tribal council is looking into the allegations. Former chairman Ronnie Lupe, a sitting council member, said a record was uncovered that showed a "questionable" use of $32,000 to pay a law firm Massey used.

Lupe had challenged his close defeat in tribal court. Massey won the election by five votes.
