Nez Perce tribal council chooses new chairman

TUESDAY, MAY 6, 2003 Voters of the Nez Perce Tribe of Idaho went to the polls on Saturday. Longtime council member Julia Davis-Wheeler, chairwoman of the National Indian Health Board, was voted out. After the election, the council voted for a new chairman. Longtime chairman Samuel N. Penney was replaced by former vice chairman Anthony Johnson in a 5-4 vote.
