The Navajo Nation Intergovernmental Relations Committee voted 4-3 on Thursday to approve a water agreement affecting the San Juan River, The Farmington Daily Times reports.

The San Juan Basin Water Recommended Water Use Agreement determines how the tribe, local governments and other water users will share water from the river in time of drought. Approval came after the deal was stripped of provisions allowing the sale of water, to three power and coal companies, through the Jicarilla Apache Nation.

The Navajo Nation now wants the other parties to reaffirm support within five working days.
