Connecticut attorney general Richard Blumenthal asked the Department of Interior's Indian Board of Indian Appeals (IBIA) for permission to file additional challenges to the federal recognition of the Eastern Pequot Tribal Nation.

Blumenthal and three towns don't believe the tribe qualifies for federal status. Former assistant secretary Neal McCaleb recognized the tribe last summer but it won't be made final until the appeals are exhausted.
