Iroquois nations join Kennewick Man battle
Facebook Twitter Email
FRIDAY, APRIL 4, 2003

The member tribes of the Iroquois Confederacy of New York submitted an amicus brief in support of a tribal claim to 9,000-year-old remains known as the Kennewick Man.

Also submitting friend of the court briefs are the Association of American Indian Affairs and the Morning Star Institute; and Sherry Hutt, an attorney from Arizona who has experience with cultural property law and has served as a state judge.

Four Pacific Northwest tribes claim Kennewick Man as an ancestor. They are asking the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals to repatriate him.

The Bush administration is also challenging a decision to allow scientists to study the remains.
