Meskwaki tribal council removed and replaced

THURSDAY, MARCH 27, 2003 The entire council of the Meskwaki Tribe of Iowa has been replaced, the Associated Press reports. The new council plans to sit for two years or until stability is reached. According to new secretary Ray Young Bear, the old council fired three top executives, who have now been reinstated. The overthrow occurred with the support of hereditary Chief Charles Old Bear.
