S.D. bill limits gas tax refunds for tribal members

TUESDAY, MARCH 25, 2003 The South Dakota Legislature passed a bill limiting a legal victory won on behalf of tribal members. The S.D. Supreme Court has ruled that tribal members who bought gas on Indian land are entitled to a refund of any state tax paid. Attorney general Larry Long asked lawmakers to limit refunds going back six years. Separately, the Legislature passed a bill to authorize tribal-state compacts for motor fuel taxes and vehicle excise taxes. Get the Story:
