S.D. Natives react to fighting in Iraq

FRIDAY, MARCH 21, 2003 American Indians in South Dakota have varied reactions to the war in Iraq, The Rapid City Journal reports. Wilbur Smith, director of the Rosebud Sioux Tribe's Veterans Affairs Program, hopes for a quick end to the conflict. A Vietnam veteran, he said he has tried to limit his exposure to news coverage. Donna Red Legs, 17, had organized a candle light vigil last week for the troops. She says she doesn't support the war and wants the troops to return safely. Get the Story:
