Shoshone massacre site being donated to tribe

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 12, 2003 The Trust for Public Lands is turning over the site of the bloody Bear River Massacre to the Northwest Band of the Shoshone Nation. The 26-acre site in Idaho where Army forces attacked a Shoshone village on January 28, 1863, will be conveyed to the tribe, based in Utah, next month. The attack was portrayed as a battle even though women and children were killed. An estimated 250 to 380 died. Get the Story:
