Navajo Nation First Lady resigns paid post

TUESDAY, MARCH 11, 2003 Navajo Nation First Lady Vikki Shirley has resigned her $49,000 a year paid post, joining counterpart Second Lady Virginia Dayish. Navajo Nation President Joe Shirley Jr. and Vice President Frank Dayish Jr. had hired their wives for the high-paying jobs. Council members, tribal members and the media responded negatively, prompting the wives to resign. Get the Story:
